The Matsumura Karate Academy in association with the Matsumura Academy operate a Youth Sponsorship Scheme designed and created to enable disadvantaged or unsupported children and young people to engage in Martial Arts Training.

Studies have shown that children and young people who engage in Martial Arts with the emphasis on life skills such as discipline, commitment, respect, loyalty, combined with the constant attainment of short term goals grow in confidence and acquire a good self-image.

"A child with a good self-image makes good life choices".

The structure of our Martial Arts classes is strongly founded on the group dynamic, which enables the individual to be comfortable working as a member of a team. The team or group dynamic is an essential part of modern working life and society.

How the scheme works:

Parents/guardians or in some cases the young person themselves will approach the academy with a view to undertaking the Black-belt sponsorship program. The applicant is then assessed prior to recommendation for acceptance.

Once accepted the academy will approach businesses in the area that are of such standing that they are keen to put something back into the community with a view to them becoming sponsors.

The sponsors will be provided with a profile of the sponsored youth and be given the opportunity to meet and interview him or her. A framed photograph with a brief profile will be given to the sponsors to display in a prominent place to enable their clients to see that they are indeed a company with a sense of local pride and responsibility.

A regular update on the youth’s progress will be forwarded to the sponsors and they will be given the opportunity to attend the regular promotional assessment examinations.

The success of this program and its associated benefits have been far reaching with some graduates going on to university and becoming valued employees and members of the community.

How to become involved:

Companies, groups or associations wishing to become involved with the Matsumura Youth Sponsorship Scheme know as the Black-Belt program can do so by registering their details with the academy.

A simple contact email expressing interest in the program will register them as potential sponsors. When a youth makes application in the manner described above the company will be contacted with a view to sponsorship.

When undertaking this opportunity consideration is given to ethics, standards and policies of the company concerned. Companies, groups or associations may wish to put forward their own candidate; this has worked successfully in the past.
