Karate has been known and proven to be the ultimate requisite for self defence. It is not necessary to study Karate for many years to become proficient in self defence. The principles upon which Karate is based are easily learned and some basic effective Karate techniques can be quickly mastered enabling the participant to effectively defend themselves when attacked.
There is much misconception when we talk about self defence with many people imagining full on battles of epic proportions, making reference in their mind to movie style stage fights and fantasy based illusions. The reality is somewhat different and in many ways so much easier. The most basic principles are Awareness, Anticipation and Avoidance.
Violence happens in places! some places are more high risk than others, a person trained in self defence is aware of these places and becomes skilled at avoiding them altogether.
Safe havens, any self defence course worth participating in will make full explanation of the need to recognise safe havens and recommend their use in emergency.
Basic principles of Karate are Posture, Balance, Centring of the body, and understanding how to turn an aggressor’s power and energy against himself, Creating maximum impact through minimum effort. In this way a much smaller person can effectively defend themselves against a much larger or stronger opponent.
In our experience most self defence courses offered by many Martial art based groups are unrealistic and ineffective. Many courses advocate the use of arm locks, throws, and restraint, to be honest these are hard to apply by a trained practitioner against a determined attacker and near impossible for a novice to use or rely on.
The Karate based course we offer is simple, fast, and efficient. Techniques are easy to learn and simple to use and devastatingly effective. We teach how to use all our body as a weapon, how to disarm an opponent, how to create confusion and fear in the aggressor, how to manage anxiety and create self confidence, to understand the principle of fight or flight and to know the difference.
Our belief in our course is absolute! So much so we offer this course on a regular program.
Basic six week course: one class per week.
Annual course: one class per month for twelve months
Unlimited course: one class per month on a continuous basis.

Experience the empowering effect of the cane when trained for use as a self defence weapon. The cane is a walking aid, an aid to mobility and perfectly legal to carry and take anywhere. However in the hands of a person trained to use the cane to its full defensive potential it is the most effective of self defence weapons.
Our courses teach cane use for mobility and exercise coupled with its full self defence potential. All techniques are simple to learn and easy to apply. As with all self defence classes we deliver classes to groups or individuals. We have access to good quality canes with some being specially designed with self defence in mind. however you can be taught using your own favourite cane.
Gus Matsumura has been teaching his own system of self defence with a cane for many years and classes for cane defence are available.
