Welcome to the website of Matsumura Karate Academy. 

We are a martial arts school teaching shotokan karate. We believe that shotokan karate is the most effective of martial arts particularly in relation to modern times. Karate is designed to enable a person to create power and impact through basic technique. this is how a relatively small person can overcome a much larger and stronger person. We teach a traditional martial art in what has become the traditional way, paying strict attention to the ettiquette tought by our ancestors. We ensure that all our training is based in the real world and we train with street violence in mind!.

There are many forms of sport karate which include competition and the winning of trophies, whilst we respect them as martial arts based sports we are not to be confused with these schools. We say this not to claim any kind of superiority or to put these schools down, merely to help those looking for sport karate that this is not our focus and to look elsewhere. Having said that we do attend competitions occasionally however this is done in the true spirit of sportsmanship and we respect the decision of the referee's and judges. no argument.
